Since WIIS was written with portability in mind, it runs on a large variety of operating systems. Both, operating system support and network transport protocols are isolated from the core program and can be easily adapted to new machines. TCP/IP and DecNet are currently implemented as the network transport protocols. Of course communication via serial port (high security) is also possible. The following table summarizes the currently implemented platforms:
Operating System
Windows 7 Windows Server 2008 and 2003 Windows Vista Windows XP Windows 2000, NT Windows 98
Linux OpenMotif Motif
SunOS >=4.1.3 Motif
Digital Unix (formerly OSF/1) >=V3.2 Motif
Solaris >= 2.4 Motif
Ultrix >= 4.3 Motif
VMS/VAX 5.x Motif
OpenVMS/AXP 6.x Motif
OS/2 2.1, OS/2 WARP 3.x PM
AIX IBM Motif
